Fox Class Descriptions

Pre-Beginner:  For early beginner riders.  Coaches/handlers permitted in ring for safety if needed;  however excessive coaching may be penalized.  May cross enter Leadline, poles, & Novice Walk/trot.

Equitation over Poles:   Riders trot pattern over 2 poles.  Open to anyone not jumping crossrails.

Beginner Walk/Trot:  For riders in 1st or 2nd year of showing (excluding Pre-Beginners).  May cross enter Poles, Novice Walk/trot, Beginner Medal,  EQ Challenge, Beginner Crossrails, and Crossrail Hunter. 

Novice Walk/Trot:  Rider not to have won more than 3 Fox blue ribbons (excluding Pre-Beginner).

Fox Challenges:  Special Daily & Year-end Awards;  Flat equitation class with optional testing.  Ribbons 1-10 (Beginner);  1-6 (Hunter & Pony rings)  Beginner Ring EQ Challenge only Walk-Trots  (no canter!)

Fox Medals:  Beginner Ring – 50% 2 crossrails; & 50% Walk/Trot flat with optional testing.  Other Medals 75% course & 25% flat with optional testing.  Winner receives bronze medal .  Ribbons 2-6.  Top 15 Qualifiers in each medal are invited to Fox Medal Finals at Oct. Halloween Festival.  Medals:  Beginner – 2 18” crossrails;  Pre-Green 18” verticals;  Short/Long 2’;  Pony 2’ or 2’6”;  Jr. 14 & under Medal – 2’3”/2’6”;   Sr. 15-Adult  Medal 2’6”/2’9”.

Beginner Crossrail EQ:  For riders in 1st or 2nd year of showing over fences.  Trotting courses is encouraged.  Simple changes permitted – outside 4 jumps only.  May cross enter Beginner classes & Hunter Crossrails. 

Crossrail Hunter:  For inexperienced riders or horse/ponies. Simple leads not to be penalized.  Riders may cross-enter Beg. Crossrails & Pre-Green Classes.  Horses may cross-enter Pre-Green Hunter & applicable flat classes.

Pre-Green EQ 18” Verticals:  For inexperienced riders.  Simple lead changes not to be penalized.  May cross enter Crossrail Hunter, Pre-Green Hunter, and any applicable flat classes.

Pre-Green Hunter 18” Verticals:  For inexperienced riders and/or horses/ponies.  Simple lead changes not to be penalized.  May also enter Crossrail Hunter or any 2 foot classes (but not both).

Green Hunter 2’:  For inexperienced horses/ponies.  May cross-enter Pre-Green Hunter or any applicable 2’ classes.  Rider may also enter their Age Group Equitation.

Short/Long 2’:  Open to horses & ponies.  Short Stirrup 12 & under;  Long Stirrup 13 & up;  Short Stirrup riders in first 2 years of showing 2’;  Long Stirrup same or rider has not shown over 2’ fences in 5 years or more.  May cross-enter Pre-Green Htr., applicable 2’ classes, & Age Group EQ.

Fox under Saddle Challenge:  Open to all horses & ponies;  judged on quality of movement , consistency & suitability;  To be shown at walk, trot, canter, lengthening of trot, hand gallop, halt & back (at discretion of judge)  Daily neck ribbons & long ribbons thru 6th.  Also Year-end Awards.

Schooling Hunter 2’:   Open to all horses & ponies.

Hopeful Hunter 2’3”:  Open to all horses & ponies.

Pony Hunter 2’ or 2’6”:  Open to ponies shown by youth or amateur;  (2’ or 2’6” – rider’s choice.)

                                             (Pony Distances will be measured based on a 12 foot stride.)

Children/Adult Amateur Hunter 2’6”: Open to all horses/ponies ridden by junior or amateur rider.

Modified Hunter 2’6”/2’9”:  Open to all horses & ponies.

M & S Children/Adult Amt. Hunter 3’:  Open to all horses/ponies ridden by jr. or amateur;  M & S qualifier.

Age Group Equitations:    (Riders age as of 12/1/07)  Ages 14 & under; 2’3”/2’6”;  Ages 15-17 & Adult EQ 2’6”/2’9”

Open Warm-ups:  Open to all; may be ridden anytime as needed – be sure & let Gate Keeper know!

Fox $1,000 MiniPrix 3’:  Open to all riders;  Awards:  1st - $350; 2nd - $200;  3rd - $150; 4th - $125;  5th - $100; 6th - $75;  10 entries required to pay $1,000;  Less than 10 entries will lower entry fee and run as addback.  Must enter at least 1 other jumper class.

Gambler’s Choice 2’6”:  Design own course;  45 second time limit;  complete rules posted at show.

 Pillow Talk Memorial Trophy

A distinctively gorgeous trophy will be awarded perpetually to the annual winner of this award at the Fox Banquet.  The winner will be the horse or pony that accumulates the most points in the following:   Pre-Beginner;  Jr. & Sr. Beginner Walk/trot; Jr. & Sr. Beginner Crossrails;  Jr. & Sr. Beginner Medals; and the Beginner Equitation Challenge.  This award is in memory of PillowTalk, beloved schooling horse of Chase Meadow Lane ( Carrollton , GA ), who so patiently and carefully taught many young riders not only to ride, but to love this sport.

NEW!! “Touch the Flame” Perpetual Trophy

“Touch the Flame”, 17 year old thoroughbred gelding belonging to the Bryans family at Malone Farms, has just recently been diagnosed with an untreatable condition in his left fetlock, that will prevent him from being ridden. “Touch the Flame” (barn name “Patrick”) became a member of the Bryans family when he was only 6 months old.  A suitably special trophy in his honor will be awarded each year to the overall High Point Hunter at the H. J. Fox Banquet (beginning in 2008).  Hunter Divisions in the main hunter ring will accrue points for this award (Hopeful, Children/Adult 2’6”,  Modified., and M & S Children/Adult 3’).

Marshall & Sterling League Qualifiers

M & S Classes:  Open to all – don’t have to be Marshall & Sterling member to compete – only if you want to accrue points.  Children & Adult Medals 3’;  Pony Medal 2’ or 2’6” (your choice); Bit of Straw Hunter 2’6” Hunter Classic (2 separate rounds) ;  Children & Adult Hunter Classic 3’;  Pony Hunter Classic 2’ or 2’6”;  M & S Children/Adult Jumper Classic 3’/3’3”;  Marshall & Sterling membership applications available in the Show Office.  The Marshall & Sterling League  is a national organization, affiliated with the HITS Show Circuit, with qualifying points accruing toward National Finals in Saugerties , NY in September.
